Martha Whetstone

Departed this life on Thursday 27th February, in the 47th year of her age, Martha Whetstone, wife of the Rev. Jacob Whetstone, of Autauga County.

The subject of this obituary notice, has left a disconsolate husband, eight children, and a large circle of friends, to mourn her untimely, and to them irreparable loss. At an early age she became deeply impressed with the importance of Religion, attached herself to the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which she has been an exemplary member for the last thirty-seven years. She died as she had lived, a Christian—her friendship was strong, her benevolence extensive, and her piety sincere. To her relations and friends, we can cheerfully say:

"Why should we mourn departed friends

Or quake at death's alarms?

'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends

To call them to his arms."                 W.
