Mary T. Hughes

Sudden Death of Mrs. Mary T. Hughes,
an Aged and Estimable Lady.

Our community was shocked on last Monday evening by hearing that Mrs. Hughes, who for many years had lived near Piedmont, was dead. At noon she seemed as well as usual, and after eating her dinner, went to the wash-stand in the veranda near the dining room, washed her hands and face and said to her grand daughter, Miss Josie Hughes, of Weaver's, who was visiting her, that she had a severe pain in her side, and believed it would kill her. Miss Hughes assisted her to bed, and in a moment after she died without a struggle. Mrs. Hughes was born in South Carolina in 1810, and was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church for over sixty years, and was much respected by all who knew her. She was buried Tuesday afternoon. Our heart-felt sympathy is tendered the bereaved family.—Piedmont Post
