Mr. E. W. Parrish

Mr. E. W. Parrish, an old highly esteemed citizen of Lowndes county, died at his daughter's residence (Mrs. Frank Pasmore) in Valdosta on Thursday afternoon last. He had been ill with something like an abcess in the head for six weeks, and he was brought to Valdosta last Tuesday so that he could receive a more constant attention from his physicians, but he never rallied, and passed away at the time named above. His remains will be buried at the old family burial ground near his residence this morning.

Mr. Parrish is one of the oldest settlers in Lowndes, having moved here from Bulloch county about sixty years ago when quite a boy, and settled among the Indians. Next February he would have been 70 years old. He reared a large family, all of his living children being now grown, and they are among our best citizens, one of whom is our fellow townsman Mr. A. A. Parrish.

Mr. Parrish was a man of exceptional character, and a good citizen. His fine common sense and sober, honest habits did much toward establishing a higher order of society during the more primative days of Lowndes county, and the impress of his character is felt and seen among younger ones to-day who came under his influence. The common remark upon our streets Thursday afternoon was: "A good man gone."

He belonged to a family of strong physical developments, and although almost 70 he seemed to fall before his time. His aged mother only died a few years since at the advanced age of 91. She raised ten children and lived fifty odd years after the birth of the last one.

May the closing of his earthly career be the beginning of a more glorious one in the other life.
