Harriott Herndon Mrs. Harriott Herndon, consort of Isham Herndon, departed this life in childbirth, on the morning of the 7th inst., aged about 38 years. She attached herself to the Missionary Baptist Church while young, and ever lived an exemplary life. Her lamp was ever trimmed and burning, casting forth its effulgent rays perceivable to all around her. Her Godly life and walk was worthy of imitation, but alas her sweet gentle spirit has been called from her loved ones to its rest beyond the beautiful river. This sad dispensation of Providence has taken from our midst a devoted wife and mother, and from the church one of its purest jewels. She leaves a devoted husband and six children to mourn their loss. Her mortal remains were interred in the cemetery at this place in presence of a very large concourse of people, all deeply sympathising with the family in this their sad bereavement. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Chitty and others. Her death was very unexpected. Truly it can be said that in the midst of life we are in death. Me men ta mori. A Friend. Statenville, Aug. 8, 1887. |
