Death of Mr. J. C. Dauvergne

Mr. James Dauvergne, who was reported in our last issue as seriously injured, died on Saturday evening at 5 oclock, and was buried in our cemetery on Sunday evening. His funeral was attended by a large assembly of our citizens, showing the estimation in which Jimmie was held.

Rev. Mr. Weston preached a very appropriate funeral sermon. Jimmie was born in New Orleans, and at his death was 33 years of age.

During the war he was a soldier in the ranks, always at his post, true, tried and faithful; was wounded several times. As a citizen he was honest and industrious. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church; being suddenly called, was ready to obey the summons, and crossed over the river and "rests under the shade of the trees" that grow in the garden of God.
